INTRODUCTION: John Charles Ryle, the famous Anglican Bishop in London in the 19th Century said in his book, “PRACTICAL RELIGION” that “earnestness in prayer is one of the virtue that bring down the mighty hands of the Omnipotent God in quick answer to our prayers”. James established this in his epistle when he said; it is the “effective fervent” prayer that “availeth much,”and not the cold, sleepy, lazy listless ones. (James 5:16).
In this study, we shall examine the marks and power of travailing, earnest and prevailing prayer.

I.        THE MARKS OF TRAVAILING PRAYER
a)   SINCERE AND SERIOUS KNOCKING – On God’s door of mercy – Matthew 7:7; Luke 18:3.
b)   LABOURING/TOILING FERVENTLY – Labouring fervently in prayers which require very strenuous endeavours(Daniel 9:19-24; Colossians 4:12; Luke 18:1; I Peter 1:17; Psalm 14:4).
c)   SPIRITUAL WRESTLING – Wrestling in prayer with wicked forces that stand in your ways of blessings (Genesis 32:24; Daniel 10:13-14).
d)  BITTER CRYING AND TEARS – Pouring out one’s heart to God in strong crying and tears out of desperation and dire need (I Samuel 1:10; Hebrew 5:7).

II.        THE UNIQUE BLESSINGS OF TRAVAILING PRAYER
Travailing prayer is one of the key ingredients which bring about a lasting and nation-shaking Revival
i.In the days of Asa (II Chron. 15:8-10).
  ii.Under Jehoshaphat (II Chron. 17:7-9; 19:11).
iii.Under Hezekiah (II Chron. 30:1-17).
iv.With Paul in Asia (Acts 19:12).
v.After Bible days in the Wales – Vans Robert.

CONCLUSION: Much prayer, much power! Little prayer, little power! No prayer, no power! What you have made a matter of prayer should cease to be a matter of care. Prayer is the child’s helpless cry to the Father’s attentive ear, His loving heart, and His strong arm.
