Father's Day: Faithful Father

I Thessalonians 2:10-12 NKJV [10] You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; [11] as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, [12] that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.


DETERMINATION TO BE A FAITHFUL FATHERS

A faithful father is determined to live a life that is: Paul describes three key responsibilities of a father:

1.    Totally Determine for Exhortation.

  • We are exhorted by living to encourage and urge children or those under our care to pursue God's ways in all ramifications.
  • We inspire as fathers let our family and those around us  to grow in faith, obedience, and spiritual maturity.

2.    Total Determination to Comfort our family.

  • We were comforted as we provide emotional and spiritual support during difficulties. The situation in the country is challenging, may we as fathers live a life of determination to comfort in this season.
  • As we we comfort we need to show compassion, patience, and understanding.


3.    Total Determination to Godly Instruction.

Psalms 32:8 [8] I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

  • Let us intentionally determine to wholeheartedly yield to instruction from the word of God.
  • Godly instruction will enable us to give clear instruction at the family level and accountability in life as fathers. 
  • As fathers, Godly instruction will enable us to challenge children to take responsibility for their actions and commitment to God.


4.    Determination to a Godly, devoted, praying life.

Acts 10:1-2 [1] There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, [2] a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. Your continuous giving to the things of God can not be overemphasised. 

Luke 18:1 NKJV][1] Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.

Total determination is not an option but a mandate.


ON THE MANDATE PRAYER WE MUST STAND AS A FATHER.

James Abayomi Boyejo, fondly referred to by many as “Papa Foursquare” and “Pastor Emeritus” was one of the three people usually referred to as the founding fathers of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria. The other two are Rev. Samuel Olusegun Odunaike and Rev. Friday Chinyere Osuwa. These three were the first group of Nigerians to come in contact with Rev. and (Mrs.) Harold Curtis, the missionaries who brought the Foursquare message to Nigeria. When the church started in 1955, Boyejo became one of its national officers and he served it meritoriously in various capacities until his retirement from service in 1995.
