TEACHING MEETING. TUESDAY 2ND JUNE, 2026.

THEME FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE 2026: COVENANT OF INCREASE. GENESIS 17:2.

TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING THE COVENANT OF INCREASE.

TEXT: GENESIS 17:2; PSALM 115:14

TEACHER: REV. SAMSON ADEYIGA

Genesis 17:2. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”

Psalms 115:14. May the Lord give you increase more and more, You and your children.

INTRODUCTION: Biblically, God's eternal promise of continuous multiplication, addition, progression, prosperity and generational blessing is without limitation. The covenant of increase demonstrates God's power to multiply His people and their resources despite the challenging circumstances.

COVENANT OF INCREASE BIBLICAL EXAMPLE:

  1. ISAAC: Genesis 26: 12-14. Isaac sowed in a land yet when experiencing severe famine. He reaped a hundredfold harvest in the same year and became "exceedingly great".
  2. THE ISRAELITES. Exodus 1:7-12. The Israelites were living under bitter oppression, hard labour, and terrible bondage in Egypt. The covenant of increase made them to be  "multiplied and waxed exceeding mighty," filling the land despite attempts to suppress them. Our mindset during oppression must be rooted in the God of the covenant.
  3. JOSEPH. Genesis 41:39–44. Rising from a slave to prison, and a prisoner became a leader in a foreign land. He was promoted to second-in-command of Egypt, preserving the nation and his family. The painful experience in Joseph's life journey, despite unpalatable circumstances, is a showcase of the covenant of increase.
  4.  JABEZ. 1 Chronicles. 4:9–10. Born in "sorrow", facing a chronic limitation about the future due to his name, God of covenant of increase still  "enlarged his border" and made him more honorable than his brothers.
  5. SARAH. Hebrews 11:11. Sarah had actually naturally passed childbearing age. The natural barrenness had already been noticed in Sarah. She received strength to conceive and gave birth to the heir of the promise by virtue of the covenant of increase.
  6. WIDOW  OF ZAREPHATH. 1 Kings 17:10–16. The reality of down syndrome at the last meal during a national drought. Her bin of flour and jar of oil never ran dry until the rain returned.

CONCLUSION: Covenant of increase is not just about hard work; it is God who "gives the increase" (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Understanding the covenant of increase is by activation. The covenant is often activated by faith, as demonstrated by Sarah, by sowing as demonstrated by Isaac,  or as a sacrifice as demonstrated by  Solomon in the bible. Generational scope stands sure as noted in Psalm 115:14, the increase is promised to you "and your children".
