INTRODUCTION:
We are continuing with our study on Growing like Him in purity. In our last study, we covered one of the deadly sins – Pride. Let’s continue with this damning sin.
II. ANGER
Definition:
– Is a feeling of sudden and strong displeasure and antagonism against the course of an assumed wrong. It is also a dispositioned disease of human nature (Mark 7:21-23; Rom. 1:29-32).
TYPES
– There are three kinds:
-The Unjustifiable Anger – The strong and sudden displeasure and antagonism or reaction the course of an assumed injury often committed by the reprobates, regenerated, non-spirit-filled and non-spirit-controlled – Gen. 4:7
-The Justifiable Anger - (Righteous or Holy Anger) – A justifiable resentment felt directed against sin. This is often displayed only by faint filled and spirit-controlled children of God (Num. 25:4-13; I Sam. 17:26).
-Divine Anger – Just, holy and revengeful wrath of God against all hardened sinners who refuse the gospel. (II Thess. 1:6-9; Rev. 16:1; 19:17-21; 20:10-15).
-Peculiarity of Unjustifiable Anger – This deadly disease has the unique peculiarity of being committed to everyone regardless of age and status in life.
-A tiny babe biting his mother’s breast.
-A little boy breaking his feeding bottle.
-A house-wife breaking the Television Set of the family.
-A professor beating his wife.
-A blind man beating his guide.
CONSEQUENCE:
-It subjects its victim to suffering and hardship.
-It leads to divorce of marriage and dissolution of homes.
-It reveals the animal nature of man (Gen. 30:2; Gal. 5:19-21: Num. 22:27).
-It renders ineffective the testimony of the Christian – Peter (Matt. 26:51-52; John 18:10-11).
-It results in loss of joy and good things of life – e.g. Cain (Gen. 4:6; I Sam. 28:6; 31:6).
CAUTION:
-Avoid being angry and envious (Psa. 49:16; Prov. 3:31).
-Avoid grudge and murmuring against your brother (James 5:9).
CURE
– Recognize these sins as deadly and damning (Rom. 1:17-29; Eph. 4:30-31)
–Confess them – Prov. 28:13.
–Pray for crucifixion of self and its lusts in you (Gal. 5:24)
–Give yourself totally to Jesus Christ.
CONCLUSION: You and I need nothing short of transparent Holiness like Jesus.
CHORUS:
Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,
All His wonderful passion and purity;
O Thou, Spirit Divine,
All my nature refine
Till the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.
